Lambwatch 2014

It's that time of year again...the most anticipated arrival of lambing season.  Despite our best efforts, we do not seem to be organized in getting the ram in with the ewes at the same time every fall, which means that one year we had our lambs in April and last year the first was born on January 31.  And this year we had two rams to court the ewes.  Which means we may be in for some surprises.  Although every year so far has been full of surprises and learning experiences.

Last night, Joey and I were talking about Super Bowl party invitations and trying to remember what we did last year. He couldn't recall if we went to a party last year and then I remembered that we spent Super Bowl Sunday on the couch in front of a space heater with a weak lamb in our laps.  An evening of warmth and snuggling and football must have done the lamb some good; she survived and we are hoping she gives us new lambs this season.

It should be interesting to see how this season goes with our own little lamb on the farm.  In the past years, I have been able to go out to the barn and check on the lambs and tend to their needs at all times and in all weather, but I am nervous about being able to help them if I am alone with the baby.  I'll keep you posted!
