Two years into homeownership...

Hi folks, I've taken lots of photos in the last few weeks, hoping to do lots of posts about home remodeling, gardening, and those stinking cute lambies, and then I got caught up in this little thing we call life. So I'm a little behind. But here's a little story about how it took us two years of home-ownership to finally get our bed moved upstairs: When we first bought our house the upstairs looked like this: Lovely orange and green shag carpet And the stairway looked like this: More carpet! The hardest thing

I had to dig my first grave yesterday. Joey and I borrowed an extra shovel and together we dug a hole in the back of our pasture to bury our dear Phyllis in. We tried everything we could think of to make her better, but both veterinarians we talked to told us that once sheep are down like that, they usually don't get back up. There were a few times over the past few days when her eyes seemed brighter, her ears perked up, she licked the molasses block, and we held onto to a tiny amount of hope that she would get up. But after five days, we had to put her out of her misery. And so together we dug a hole. And we talked about the hamsters we buried as kids. And how our suburban upbringing did not prepare us for what we had to do. And how this was the life we chose for ourselves, how we have to have a certain understanding of what goes into raising livestock. Love part one

I know, it's been too long. I've been busy. But I've also been avoiding writing on this blog. Usually I share the funny little ordinary things that happen in my everyday life. Sometimes I share my emotions; how my dogs can drive me crazy, how disheartening and discouraging a drought can be to anyone whose livelihood depends on farming, the frustrations of home-ownership and living hours away from my family. But I usually don't bare my heart and soul, reveal the things that make me cry, or share much below the surface of everyday emotions. But this blog is about my life: as a librarian, a shepherdess, a dog-wrangler, a city-girl in the country, a wife, daughter, and friend. And something scary happened in my life. One of those "step back and appreciate what you have" kind of things.
